What is Solassure?
Solassure is an industry certification for solar and battery energy storage businesses. It covers how systems are designed, the products supplied, installation and workmanship, and support after the job is done.
Only SEANZ members can apply, and SEANZ decides who is accepted. SEANZ acts as the certifying authority, with an Oversight Committee of board members, legal advisors and technical experts, and a Review Panel that handles disputes and appeals.
It is built on five principles: integrity, quality, accountability, inclusiveness and consumer protection.
Why New Zealand needs a solar quality mark
More Kiwis are installing solar and solar batteries every year. That is good news, but growth also brings more low-quality, price-driven installations that can let people down on performance and reliability.
A solar and battery system is a long-term investment. Solassure gives you a clear way to find businesses that have committed to doing the job properly and standing behind it.
What Solassure certified businesses commit to
Every certified business signs up to the Solassure Code of Conduct. Among other things, it means we must:
- Follow the laws that protect you, including the Building Code, the Fair Trading Act, the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Honour the guarantees and warranties we provide, and those provided by our suppliers
- Supply and install only products that meet the applicable standards
- Hold appropriate insurance
- Cooperate with inspections and spot audits
- Work with an independent mediator if a dispute needs one
Certification is not a one-off. Alleged breaches of the Code are investigated, and a business can have its certification cancelled.
How to check an installer is Solassure certified
Certified businesses are listed in the Solassure installer directory. They are also required to show the Solassure and SEANZ logos on their website and on their quotes and other sales material. If you can’t see them, ask.
Five questions to ask any solar installer
- Are you Solassure certified and a SEANZ member?
- Who will design and install my system, and what are their qualifications?
- Which warranties apply to the panels, battery, inverter and workmanship, and who do I contact to use them?
- Do the products you are quoting meet New Zealand standards?
- What support do I get after the system is installed?

What if I have a problem with a Solassure certified business?
Start by raising it with the business. If it isn’t resolved, alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct can be investigated by Solassure’s Review Panel, which can appoint an independent mediator
