Home EV charging is the cheapest, easiest and cleanest way to keep your car ready to go. Here is why charging at home beats the public network.
Forget the gas station and the public charger queue. Plug in when you get home and your charger does the rest. Set it once to top up automatically overnight, when power is cheapest and the grid is cleanest, and you wake up to a full battery every morning. No detours, no waiting, nothing to think about.
Charging at home is far cheaper than public fast charging, and cheaper again on solar or off-peak power. Programme your charger to run when power is cheapest, or straight from your own panels, and the running cost of your car drops to a fraction of petrol.
Charge on solar and your daily driving is powered by the sun. Schedule charging for daytime solar or off-peak hours and you also take pressure off the grid at peak times, when it leans hardest on fossil-fuelled generation.
You decide how and when you charge. Every charger we install comes with app control and smart scheduling, so you can set charging times, charge straight from your solar, and manage everything from your phone, wherever you are.
We are an authorised installer for the four leading home EV charger brands in New Zealand: Wallbox, Tesla Energy, SolaX and Sigenergy. All of them offer app control, smart scheduling and solar charging. So, whichever you choose you can charge on your own power and on your own terms. At your free consult we will recommend the right charger for your car, your home and your solar setup.
Fast, efficient charging with seamless integration to the Tesla app, sleek, reliable and designed for everyday home charging. It delivers up to 11.5 kW and receives over-the-air updates. Tailored for Tesla vehicles; non-Tesla owners with a Type 2 inlet can use it too.
Best for: Tesla drivers, and any EV with a Type 2 inlet.
Two compact, powerful home chargers built for fast, reliable charging with easy app control and smart scheduling. The Pulsar Plus suits most Kiwi homes, with a choice of 40 or 48 amps and flexible installation; the Pulsar Max adds a more robust design built to handle tougher, outdoor environments. We take care of the wiring either way.
Best for: most homes, indoors or out.
Charges your EV using solar power, reducing energy costs and grid reliance. With app control and flexible charging modes it is a simple, smart addition to any solar home, and it pairs neatly if you already have a SolaX inverter or battery.
Best for: solar homes, especially those with SolaX solar.
Charges your EV efficiently at home, using smart controls to save energy and cost. Compact and easy to use, it works well with solar and battery systems for greener, smarter charging.
Best for: homes with solar and battery wanting one integrated setup.

Home charging is cheaper, more convenient and cleaner than the public network. You plug in at home and wake up to a full battery, you skip public charging fees and queues, and on solar your driving runs on power from your own roof. For most drivers, home charging covers day-to-day needs, with public fast charging kept for the occasional long trip.
Yes. With a smart home charger you can charge your EV on 100% solar, or on a mix of solar and grid power, and choose which at any time. Charging straight from your panels is the cheapest way to run an electric car and it maximises the return on your solar system. When solar is installed, the charger is usually linked to your inverter and battery so it can prioritise your own energy, which is exactly how the SolaX and Sigenergy chargers are designed to work. See our residential solar page for how the system fits together.
Charge when energy is cheapest and cleanest, which usually means on your own solar or off peak overnight, and ideally not in the early evening peak straight after work. If you have solar without a battery, charge during the day so the car runs on your own generation. If you have solar and a battery, you can charge from stored solar at night. If you do not have solar, or you are on a time-of-use plan, schedule charging for off-peak hours. Avoiding the evening peak matters: that is when the grid leans hardest on fossil-fuelled generation, so shifting your charge lowers both your cost and your carbon footprint. Every charger we install can be scheduled to do this automatically, so cleaner, cheaper charging is set-and-forget.
All four are excellent; the right one depends on your car, your home and your solar. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus suits most homes, with the Pulsar Max built for tougher outdoor spots. The Tesla Wall Connector is ideal for Tesla drivers (and any EV with a Type 2 inlet). The SolaX and Sigenergy chargers are the natural choice for solar homes, especially if you already have, or are adding, a matching inverter and battery, because the charger links to them to prioritise your own solar. We will recommend the best fit at your free consult.
You can use the portable cable that came with your car, but it charges slowly and is only meant for occasional use. A dedicated wall charger is faster, safer and smarter: it charges several times quicker, manages power so it will not overload your home, and lets you schedule charging for the cheapest times or straight from solar. For daily charging, a wall charger is the better long-term choice.
Usually not, thanks to dynamic load management. A smart charger monitors how much power the rest of your home is using and adjusts the charging speed to stay within your home's limit, charging fast when demand is low and easing off when it is high. This avoids tripping fuses and, in most homes, avoids a costly switchboard upgrade. We confirm what your home can support at the free consult.
It depends on your charger and your car. A typical home charger delivers around 7 kW on a single-phase supply or up to about 11 kW on three-phase, enough to fully charge most EVs overnight. The Tesla Wall Connector delivers up to 11.5 kW. Because most people charge while they sleep, the car is ready every morning regardless of the exact rate.
A home EV charger installed by Future Energy typically ranges $1,800-$5,000 depending on the charger and your home. The main factors are the charger model, the distance from your switchboard to the charger, whether your home is single-phase or three-phase, and any electrical work needed. If you are buying solar at the same time there are often bundle savings, including current promotions. We give you exact pricing in writing at your free Home Energy Consult.
Yes. Smart chargers are designed for this. Wallbox dynamic load management lets you add a second charger and share the available power between cars, and multiple Tesla Wall Connectors can manage power output across several vehicles. So you can start with one EV now and add another later without rewiring your home.
From green energy loans to interest-free options, we will help you find a payment structure that suits your budget. Charging at home, especially on solar, costs a fraction of public charging and petrol, so the charger starts paying you back from the first plug-in.
